Laser Vein Removal in Ashburn, VA

ABOUT LASER VEIN REMOVAL

Usually located on the face and upper thighs, spider veins are small blood vessels that branch and become visible underneath the skin. Caused by many factors, like genetics, age, and sun damage, spider veins may be red, blue, and purple, which makes them difficult to conceal. As these unattractive veins typically multiply over the years and become more visible, it is advisable to receive treatment when you first notice them. To decrease the visibility of blood vessels on the body and face, The Loudoun Center for Plastic Surgery performs nonsurgical laser vein removal treatments for Ashburn, VA residents. At your initial consultation, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael J. Brown can suggest a customized plan to meet your needs and goals for your laser vein reduction treatment.

Top notch facility and practice. Will highly recommend. Will return. Dr. Brown is highly knowledgeable and has a wonderful bedside manner. I felt extremely well cared for.

IDEAL CANDIDATES

Nonsurgical vein reduction sessions at The Loudoun Center for Plastic Surgery may minimize the look of small or mid-sized veins on the body and face. Frequently called spider veins, these visible blood vessels are rarely a medical issue; however, they are deemed a cosmetic problem. Affected men and women tend to avoid certain clothes (such as swimsuits and shorts) or use a lot of concealers to attempt to cover up their spider veins. Laser vein treatments are a good option for people who have generally good health, don’t have blood clots, and aren’t pregnant.

PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE

Nonsurgical laser vein removal sessions are completed in our Ashburn, VA office in around 20 – 45 minutes based on the number and size of the areas being addressed. For your laser vein reduction, you will be asked to relax in a reclined position in one of our treatment rooms as the skin is cleaned. At your request, a local numbing cream may be used before the procedure to reduce any discomfort. The laser handpiece is passed across the skin so the wavelengths can reach the spider veins with multiple pulses that do not harm the rest of the body. The abnormal blood vessel soaks in the energy of the laser, which closes the walls of the veins. Since the blood no longer flows through these vessels at the surface, the spider vein look is diminished. You will be allowed to leave immediately to get back to your regular routine following your laser treatment.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Right after your laser vein reduction session, you may notice bruising, swelling, and redness; however, these side effects usually dissipate in around 1 – 2 weeks. For optimal healing, compression or support garments may be worn to encourage the circulation of blood. It is necessary to avoid extended exposure to UV rays, and you are encouraged to use sunscreen on treated skin. Certain patients notice improvements right away, but outcomes will be different for every person. In your consultation, potential results will be reviewed, as well as suggestions on the number of treatments necessary to get your optimal results. More spider veins will likely form in time so follow-up procedures may be performed as needed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much does laser vein removal cost?

The price of your laser vein removal will be dependent on the size and location of the area being treated. We will examine your veins prior to your treatment to determine the scope of your treatment process. At our Ashburn, VA facility, we also accept several payment methods to help make your treatment as affordable as possible.

Should I receive laser vein removal or sclerotherapy?

The ideal form of treatment for you will depend on the types of veins present, their size, and their location. Laser treatments are effective in treating spider veins; however, in some cases, patients who have certain types of deeper spider veins or varicose veins may benefit more from sclerotherapy. In this treatment, a solution is injected into the vein in order to remove it. Veins treated through laser vein removal have a slimmer chance of returning than if sclerotherapy alone is used. During a consultation, we will assess whether or not the veins can be treated with lasers.

Does the vein go away?

With laser vein removal, the vein is destroyed with a focused beam of light. Through this precise technology, only the target areas are treated, allowing the surrounding area to not be affected. After about 4 – 6 weeks, the vein will be reabsorbed by the body, disappearing entirely.

Where can laser vein removal be used?

Laser vein removal can be used for treatment anywhere that a spider vein exists, including the face, upper thighs, back of the legs, and around the ankles. Utilizing state-of-the-art laser technology allows us to precisely treat each area, regardless of how delicate it is.

Is laser vein removal painful?
An ointment or local anesthetic can be applied to the treatment area prior to the procedure to help diminish any discomfort. Typically, patients will only experience a slight pinching sensation during the treatment. Additionally, the laser technology we use has a built-in cooling system to protect the skin and to provide a cooling effect.
