LASER HAIR REMOVAL CANDIDATES
Removing hair and reducing hair follicle growth with a laser is a safe process suitable for most patients. In your initial consultation, we will discuss any concerns, needs, and goals you may have to decide if this treatment is right for you.
Ideal candidates for laser hair removal treatments will:
LASER HAIR REMOVAL TECHNIQUE
On the day of your laser hair removal appointment, your technician will first clean the treatment areas to eliminate oil, dirt, and any cosmetic products you have applied.
During the procedure, a team member will stretch out the treatment area to create a clear pathway from the root of the hair follicle to the laser. The energy produced by the laser will disable the targeted follicle, which stops the hair from growing again.
Usually, you will need roughly 3 – 5 treatments, each 3 – 4 weeks apart for the best results. Your appointments are staggered to give the affected areas a chance to heal. It allows each treatment to take place at different points in the hair growth cycle, ensuring as many follicles as possible are treated. Our innovative, state-of-the-art technology is able to target only the hair follicle and preserve the skin and other tissue in and around the treatment area.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Although the treatment is mostly gentle, the treated areas of your skin may be slightly red immediately following treatment. After your session, you are able to resume all normal activities, but we do not recommend strenuous activities.
Avoid sun exposure for the first 24 hours as this can irritate the treated skin. If you experience any mild irritation or discomfort, we suggest using a cool washcloth or gel ice packs to soothe the skin.

How much does laser hair removal cost?

During your consultation, we will create a personalized treatment plan for you that will include the total number of recommended sessions and pricing for each treatment. For individual treatment prices, please see pricing information listed above.
Laser hair removal is often regarded as the best solution for hair removal, but there is some potential for hair growth afterwards. This may happen in areas where the laser was not able to target during the appropriate phase of hair growth, and/or with the appropriate amount of energy. Nevertheless, laser hair removal still works with ingrown hairs.
Most patients find that most, if not all, of their hair is gone for good following a series of treatments. Any hair that remains is easy to manage. Additional laser treatments can help eliminate any new growth and stragglers.
Why do I need multiple laser hair removal sessions?
Since hair growth occurs in cycles, some hair may be in its growing phase while others may be in their dormant phase. Because hair follicles must be targeted in their growing phase, multiple treatments at different times in the hair growth cycle are needed.
The follicle is not affected by shaving above the skin’s surfaceso any hair that grows can be shaved between treatments.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Though some minor discomfort may occur, laser hair removal is not considered a painful procedure. Typically, patients will experience a slight stinging sensation as the laser targets the hair follicles. A numbing ointment may be applied to the skin’s surface prior to treatment to allow for a more comfortable procedure.
Which laser is best to remove hair?
At The Loudoun Center for Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer the latest in hair removal technology through the Cutera Excel system. The Excel HR laser includes a cooling mechanism to protect the skin.
The laser can treat a larger area per pulse than any other laser on the market, making it even more effective in a shorter period of time. The Excel HR laser is FDA-approved to reduce the amount of hair in the treated area.
Laser hair removal works, and it’s never worked better here.
