Silicone gel breast implant rupture

The Medical Director of The Loudoun Center for Plastic Surgery, Dr Michael J Brown MD, presents silicone gel breast implant failure after having been in place for over 30 years. This plastic surgery video demonstrates what the very old generation silicone gel breast implants had thinner breast implant shells and less viscous gels and were prone to rupture.

Examination of Failed Implant

This is a demonstration of a silicone gel implant, which has been removed after being inside of a woman for over thirty years. These are very old devices that she wanted to have taken out. This was a non-diagnosed failure of an implant, which was not determined until the surgery was begun. The other side implant was intact, and this is the implant scar tissue pocket, or capsule.

The implant that has failed, is actually... the shell of that implant is within the silicon gel, which is basically leaking out onto the table. The capsule that I'm cutting is relatively thick, and has a little bit of the silicone left over from the first implant that I took out.
